Magdalena Walczak studied Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering at Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland. She began her scientific activities at Hahn-Meitner Institut en Berlin, Germany, doing research on mechanical behaviour of steel and related biomaterials. She joined International Max-Planck Research School for Surface and Interface of Advanced Materials en Max-Planck Institute for Iron Research, Düsseldorf, Germany, and she got her PhD (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), exploring advanced methods for protection against corrsion. She gained industrial experience by directing a galvanization laboratory at Surface Research Center of ThyssenKrupp in Dortmund, Germany.

Currently, she works as an Associate Professor at School of Engineering of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile where she established the Corrosion Laboratory, and besides, she is the Coordinator of the Programme called Global Engineering Teams.
