Career Path
Prof. Cabrera work as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Pure
and Applied Physical Sciences,
University of California, San Diego from 1974 to 1980. At that time
he set up lab for Catalysis and
Microgravimetry while working for Prof. M. Brian Maple from the
Physics Department. He was a
Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory from 1980 to 1982.
A new lab was built to carry out microreaction in a UHV chamber
which combined reactions with surface
analyses while working for Prof. Gabor A. Somorjai and Dr. Heinz
Heinemann. The results of this research
on carbon reaction with water was amply covered in the press. As a
Senior and Principal Research Physicist
at Air Products and Chemicals from 1982 to 1990 he wrote 14 research
reports, 7 US patents were issued and
more than 12 publications appeared in the press. Adjunct and
Associate Professor of Physics at Pontificia
Universidad Catolica from 1990 to 2000. Professor of Physics from
2000 to 2020. He established the
Materials
Science Laboratory in 1990 where his research has been carried
out since then. During this time,
teaching
areas have included: Solid State Physics, Optical and Waves Physics,
Physics for Engineers and for
Basic Science students. Many undergraduate, MS and Ph.D. Theses in Physics
have been completed under his guidance.
