Faculty position in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for Energy Conversion (cerrada)

 

Applications are invited for a tenure track position at the Faculty of Chemistry at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. This is a joined position with the Faculty of Physics in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology for energy conversion.

The candidate must have a PhD in chemistry or physics or closely related area. Postdoctoral studies in energy conversion topics are desirable. The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience in interdisciplinary research through publications, projects and national and / or international collaboration. The candidate must be proactive, possess leadership skills and be willing to work in interdisciplinary team. Oral and written communication skills are necessary. The selected candidate must be willing to teach in Spanish at an undergraduate level, as well as in disciplinary courses at a graduate level.

An academic proposal of maximum two pages should also be included. Project Manager Recruitment (closed)

CIEN-UC (Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Research Center) of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, San Joaquín Campus, call for competition to offer the Project Manager position with flexible working hours.

Position Description

The Project Manager will be resposible for contributing to the development of CIEN-UC, by creating and develoving contact network from different areas of the national industry. She/He will in charge of elaborating service offerings, managing potential customers visits, identifying opportunities to apply to the Government's projects, following-up to the submitted applications and offers. Moreover, she/He will be up to date with the current and future situation of the industry.

Requirements

  • Qualified Engineer (Commercial, Civil, Industrial is suggested).
  • Postgraduate studies will be considered but not essential.
  • Availability to take over this position from November 2014.
  • Ability to create contact network in national industry.
  • General knowledge on Government's projects such as Fondecyt, Milenio, Basal, Fondef. This will be considered but not essential.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Interested in learning constantly.
  • Written and spoken English.
  • Good oral and written expression.
  • Computing knowledge: Microsoft Office mainly, user-level.

PostDoctoral researchers to join one of the following interdisciplinary (cerrado)

1. Research Line: Biocompatible Nanomaterials

  • PhD with a strong training in Physics and Engineering.
  • PhD on biological issues.
  • Special consideration will be given to those applicants who prove experimental research.

2. Research Line: Science of Materials-Functionalization of Surfaces

  • PhD in a related field to science of materials related to Surfaces Engineering or Science.
  • Ability to significantly increase the interdisciplinary research in science of materials at faculties of Engineering and Physics, helping strengthen links between both academic units.
  • Expert on surfaces functionalization issues.

3. Research Line: Nanomaterials applied to clean energies and environment

  • PhD in Physics or Chemistry.
  • Ability to interact with other researchers in the area of Physcis and Chemistry.
  • Experience in the area of renewable energies (production, storage and nanomaterials).
  • It is ideal the applicant has experience in the use of characterization ttechniques such as: electronic microscopy (SEM and TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), x-ray diffraction, UV-NIR spectroscopy, Raman.

4. Research Line: Bio-Nanomaterials

  • PhD in Physics (or its equivalent).
  • Knowledge and experience in installation, alingment and maintenance of optical vacuum methods and systems, micromechanics (requirement).
  • Experience in AFM techniques and assembling of organic layers.

5.Research Line: Water treatment and remediation technologies

  • PhD with excellence training in chemical or engineering sciences.
  • PhD in a related field to environment and application of nanoparticles in this area.
  • She/He is expected to have the tools to work in topics related to: Noise pollution, treatment technologies or analysis of aquatic enviromental matrices.
  • Special consideration will be given to those applicants who prove experimental research.
  • The applicant must significantly increase the interdisciplinary research on environmental pollution/remediation between faculties of Chemistry and Engineering.

If the applicant is about to finish her/his studies, she/he must prove that her/his thesis defense will be carried out in a less than 3-month period (from the date this competition calling was published).
